Working at BMT Scientific Marine Services has given me the freedom to develop my engineering skills in subsea instrumentation and to advance into project management. The job has also provided the opportunity to travel to different parts of the world, working on the largest and most complex offshore riser monitoring projects in BMT's history.
These include the AKPO and Cascade Chinook riser monitoring systems for which I was Deputy Project Manager. Since then I have been promoted to Project Manager and overseen a number of key projects, the most challenging being the development of our ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) deployable strain sensor for subsea use. This is a first in the industry and enables sensors, which are at depths deeper than divers can reach, to be repaired and replaced. The testing was unique, and fun, and the output very rewarding.
Seeing a product develop from concept to delivery and operation in the field is what gives me the most satisfaction.
The highlight of my career so far was becoming a Project Manager. It has allowed me to work face-to-face with our customers and interact with them on a personal level to gain their trust in our products. The company has provided project management training and supported me in taking further courses independently. Additionally, BMT invited me to join their Development Centre programme which will help me to progress within the company.
